Miss World Malta hopes to ‘make Malta proud’

Malta’s newest top model has pledged to do her ‘very best to make Malta proud’.

Nicole Vella was crowned the winner of the 23rd edition of Miss World Malta in Valletta on Saturday night.

She is the daughter of singer Debbie Scerri, who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997.

Nicole, 19, took to Facebook to thank her friends and family for their support.

She wrote: ‘From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank each and every one of you for all the well wishes.

‘All my close friends and family that cheered for me during these months, you all know who you are.

‘Last but not least my parents, Debbie Scerri and Matthew Vella for always believing in me and always encouraging me to pursue my dreams.

‘I can’t wait for Thailand and will do my very best to make Malta proud’.

Nicole, who is reading for her degree in psychology at the University of Malta, will represent the island at this year’s Miss World contest in Thailand.

She stunned during Saturday’s night’s competition, both with her looks and personality.
