No one was injured in a minor accident which occurred at around eight this morning at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa.
The accident happened when a tower crane’s cable snapped and the small hopper attached to it landed heavily on the Maritime Museum’s roof. Consequently, two stone slabs were damaged.
Action was immediately taken to ensure that the site is safe and to repair the structural damage. None of the artifacts in the museum’s collection suffered any damage.
The works currently underway at the Maritime Museum are part of a major restoration and upgrading project. The museum is closed to the public at the moment.
