The Great Romance Recession of the 21st century! 💔

The number of 18 to 29-year-olds abstaining from sexual activity for a year has more than doubled in the past decade. According to data published in the Washington Post, the proportion of young men under 30 in the USA who are not engaging in sexual activities has nearly tripled between 2008 and 2018. In 2008, around 10 percent of men under 30 reported no sexual activity in the previous 12 months, slightly more than the corresponding number for women. However, in the last 10 years, this figure has risen significantly to 28 percent for men under 30, which is close to a triple increase. In comparison, the rise in women under 30 reporting no sex during the same period was less than 10 percent. This data was gathered from the General Social Survey, a sociological survey conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago since 1972.

Additionally, the data also suggested that the number of young men reporting virginity has tripled since 2008. However, it’s worth noting that reporter Christopher Ingrams pointed out that this figure may not be entirely accurate due to the way the data was reported. Some of the respondents might have had sexual experiences before turning 18 or may have had sexual relationships exclusively with other men.
