Making your decision won’t be easy, they’ve all blown us away with their talent, but hopefully this article will make it a bit easier or you – so without further ado, meet Malta’s fresh artists, the newcomers.
The Best Newcomer Award is brought to you by the Eden Cinemas
We might know Dav as a contestant from the latest season of X Factor Malta, but Dav.Jr has been in the music scene for quite a while, from his teens to be exact. From his early days within a band, to finally building enough confidence to go solo, this young artist even moved to Melbourne for a while to pursue a career within the music industry.
Fate brought him back and throughout the past year we’ve seen Dave bloom in the local scene, with original songs, beautifully written and gorgeously sung.
This indie-pop band uses their music to inspire others, and to explore important human and social issues through song.
Their journey started back in 2015, with the release of their debut original single CORRODE. The song made it to our Malta’s Top 10 Chart and garnered over 14,000 views on YouTube. The rest was history.
You’ll probably know OXYGYN for their single ‘BUBBLEWRAP’ which spent 4 weeks at the top of our Malta’s Top 10 chart.
Midwife by day, singing sensation by night, Karin has been building a reputation, gigging all over the island for years. After auditioning for The X Factor Malta and making it to judges’ houses on both occasions, Karin decided to go to London and work on writing and producing music for a while.
Karin might not have made it to the X Factor live shows, but she’s been making a name for herself way before that and ever since. Her killer vocals and music style has given us a catchy bop that even made it to our Malta’s Top 10 list. The refrain of ‘Silly Little Game’ was stuck in our head on repeat for weeks.
The contemporary blues trio made up of Ben Bailey, Patrick Camilleri and Antoine Tonna.
The band has worked extremely hard to mix blues, funk, rock and pop into their unique style.
The three have had years of musical focus to develop very unique styles, tastes and skill-sets, all of which end up combining to create great results.
The end result is glorious alchemy!
