Avatar, which was directed by James Cameron and released in 2009, now has a total gross of about $2.802 billion, surpassing Avengers: Endgame as the highest-grossing film, but there are no hard feelings here!
Avatar, which previously held the prestigious record until the Marvel film dethroned it in 2019, has officially reclaimed its place in film history after being recently re-released in China.
Both of these films are owned by Disney, but Avatar initially took the coveted top spot in 2010, surpassing Cameron’s renowned 1997 movie, Titanic.

Avatar producer Jon Landau also shared, ‘We are proud to reach this great milestone, but Jim and I are most thrilled that the film is back in theaters during these unprecedented times, and we want to thank our Chinese fans for their support’.
Plus, we can also look forward to some sequels to the block buster as Landau added, ‘We are hard at work on the next Avatar films and look forward to sharing the continuation of this epic story for years to come’.
