Peter Marshall, a man with early onset Alzheimer’s proposed again to his wife after forgetting they had already been married for 12 years.
Marshall was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago and it has resulted in having no recollection of his first wedding to his wife, Lisa.
Although the disease has sadly taken many of Peter’s memories, he never forgot how much he loved his wife and one day, whilst he was watching a wedding on TV he decided to ask Lisa for her hand in marriage – again.
Lisa stated that he had a huge grin on his face and told the NBC New York that the doesn’t know that I am his wife as he refers to her as his favourite person.
Lisa’s daughter who happens to be a wedding and event planner took action and helped out with the event, spreading the word and making the necessary arrangements with numerous vendors who offered their services for free.
Lisa stated that she is ‘the luckiest girl in the world’ as she get to do it twice.
Although the married couple has just enjoyed their vow renewal ceremony, Peter’s illness is rapidly progressing and he no longer remembers the day.
Lisa assured him that it was the most perfect day and it was so magical. She recalled that she has never seen this happy.
The wife and mother documents her and Peter’s journey on a Facebook page named Oh Hello Alzheimer’s where she describes the experiences as sometimes raw, always tender and real.
