The Malta Tourism Authority have expressed the possibility of having Malta host Manchester United for a short training camp next year.
Just last September, an agreement between MTA and Manchester United saw Malta becoming an official destination partner over the next three years.
Sources stated: “Negotiations are still at an early stage and we are doing everything possible to make this trip happen. It would be great for fans. However, it’s no easy task as it mostly depends on whether our facilities will meet the standards set by a huge club like United.
“What I can say is that an Old Trafford official has already been here to inspect the facilities available. Now, we have to wait and see what their response will be.”
If all goes as planned, this would be Man Utd’s fifth time visiting our island.
However, sources have also shared that the trip is even more difficult to achieve because of the way Man Utd handle their operations.
But president of the Manchester United Supporters Club here in Malta, Joseph Tedesco believes that now is the best time for the training camp deal to strike.
“As a supporters’ club we are proud to have played a key role and assisted the MTA in the build-up to the negotiations,” he said.
“Immediately after signing the deal, the MTA made their intentions clear to bring United to Malta so we’re hopeful that a positive conclusion will be reached soon.”
