A man has been rushed to hospital after a balcony collapsed in Sliema.
Police said he was working on the balcony when the accident happened.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Mrabat Street at about 11.45am.
The man, who is Italian, fell the height of one storey.
The Malta Independent newspaper reported that the man at one ‘could not breathe because he swallowed his tongue’.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to Mater Dei Hospital.
The street was closed to traffic for around 30 minutes before being re-opened.
