Man in court charged with string of thefts in Fgura

A man has appeared in court in Valletta charged with a string of thefts over the Christmas period.

Nicholas Catania, 37, from Siggiewi was accused of going on a three-week crime spree in Fgura.

He was charged with stealing electronic equipment from a parked car on New Year’s Eve.

He was also charged with the theft of a bag containing two mobile phones and a bunch of keys from another car on December 20.

Catania was also accused of stealing another bag from a van on December 10 as well as taking a pneumatic drill from the roadside on December 21.

The court heard that all of the alleged offences took place in Fgura.

Inspector Hubert Cini from Malta Police said that the accused was arrested following a 112 call from a member of the public.

Catania pleaded not guilty but was remanded in custody by magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo.
