Tributes have been paid to ‘a real gentleman’ who was found dead at one of Malta’s most popular swimming spots.
Vincent Zahra, 68, from Zejtun drowned at St Peter’s Pool near Marsaxlokk on Sunday.
Friends and relatives took to social media to pay their respects.
One friend wrote on Facebook: ‘Greatly shocked to be informed of the death of former STMicroelectronics colleague Vince Zahra.
‘We worked together for many years. He was an upstanding man and a real gentleman. Very, very sorry. Speechless. RIP Vince.’
A family member added: ‘My godfather, my favourite uncle, how you’ve left me speechless and heartbroken.
‘Uncle, we’ll never speak on the things we love ever again.
‘I pray that you take care of us and send my regards to nannu and nanna and to our uncles and aunties.’
Mr Zahra is believed he have had a heart attack while he was in the sea on Sunday.
Shocked eyewitnesses told how he started to experience difficulties while swimming in the area.
He was given first aid by other bathers, who carried him to the shore, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics.
