Could a Maltese terrier named Valletta be the next Paw-varotti?
The three-year-old pooch could give the Italian tenor a run for his money when she stars in La Bohème this week.
Valletta will play singer Musetta’s trusty dog in the production in the English seaside resort of Brighton.
Her owner Orla O’Hagan told the Brighton Argus: ‘She is very cute and attracts attention everywhere she goes.
‘She would be great for a life on the stage.’
The show’s director Ellen Kent said she loved including pets in her productions.
She added: ‘People say never work with children or animals but I love to do both.
‘The first time was 20 years ago when my cat was in one of my productions and was an instant hit.
‘Since then we’ve had horses, dogs, goldfish and even an eagle on stage.’
La Bohème, a story of tragic love between seamstress Mimi and penniless poet Rodolfo, is one of the most popular operas in the world.
It will be performed at the Theatre Royal Brighton on Friday 31 January.
