Maltese tennis duo Francesca Curmi and Helene Pellicano have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open juniors.
Both players from Malta reached the last 16 in Melbourne after notching up victories with their respective partners.
Francesca, 17, and her doubles partner Loudmilla Bencheikh of France came back from a set down to beat Russia’s Maria Krupenina and Daria Snigur, of Ukraine, 5-7 7-6, 10-8.
Meanwhile, Helene and her doubles partner Marta Custic of Spain defeated Russian duo Veronika Pepelyaeva and Avelina Sayfetdinova in straight sets 6-2 6-4.
Last year, Francesca became the first Maltese player to take part in Wimbledon, the US Open and the French Open junior championships.
