Four friends from Malta have revealed they feel ‘on top of the world’ after reaching the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain.
Steffie Cassar Torreggiani, Brian Warrington, Jo Barron and Ellie Muscat Barron set off on the adventure of a lifetime to Mount Everest last month, backed by Cynergi Health & Fitness Club in St Julian’s.
At times they felt ‘pushed to the limits’ by the terrain and the elements but were determined to keep going for a great cause.
Their expedition to the Mount Everest base camp was to raise funds for cancer research in Malta after finding out a close friend had been diagnosed with the condition.
They said: ‘Upon learning the diagnosis of advanced stage pancreatic cancer of our dear friend Chris Pullicino, we are on a mission to collect money which will be donated to ALIVE Charity Foundation and Hospice Malta.
‘Chris being an avid cyclist has been dealt a severe blow with this life-changing prognosis and with his imminent commencement of chemotherapy, time is of the essence.’
The four set off from Malta to Nepal last month and managed to raise an astonishing €6,186.00 as part of an online campaign.
