Maria Farrugia is making Malta proud.
The teenager, who plays for the Malta women’s international side, has joined Sunderland Ladies.
Maria, who is from Ghasri in Gozo and studied at Malta’s National Sports School, has signed a full-time contract with the English team.
She will make her debut for Sunderland against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women’s National League this weekend.
Sunderland Ladies play their home games at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground in the city.
They are managed by Melanie Copeland.
