Malta’s seawater has been ranked as the fourth cleanest among EU countries, resulting from statistics issued by Eurostat following water samples taken back in 2019.
The figures show that 97.7% of the local beaches where people swim have seawater of excellent quality! Meanwhile, the average for member states stands at 88%.
As per the statistics, Lithuania has the cleanest seawater, 100%, followed by Cyprus at 99% and Croatia at 98%.
On the other hand, Poland has the lowest rate at 29%. However, the waters around its coast in particular are of excellent quality.
Estonia and Finland were also ranked at 52% and 64% respectively.
