Malta’s outgoing Prime Minister has wished his successor well in a post on social media.
Joseph Muscat took to Instagram to share a photo of his wife and children alongside Robert Abela, his wife and daughter.
Dr Muscat wrote: ‘On this very special day, Michelle, Etoile Ella, Soleil Sophie and I wish Lydia, Giorgia Mae and Robert all the very best for the future.’
The outgoing Prime Minister will formally tender his resignation to President George Vella on Monday afternoon.
Minutes later, Dr Abela will be officially sworn-in as the island’s new Prime Minister at a special ceremony at the Palace in Valletta.
The oath of office reads: ‘I solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of Prime Minister of Malta, and will, to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Malta. So help me God.’
