For the first time since they started, back in 2007, Malta’s national Futsal team has gotten its first ever point at an international competitive tournament, making history for Malta.
The Maltese team finished off their match with Greece with a draw.
After no scores during the first half, Malta’s team came into the second round, determined to get that win. “Eighteen seconds into the second half and Malta forged ahead when Carl Azzopardi sneaked a ball from the Greek defence to poke the ball from between keepers legs into the net,” a Facebook post by Futsal Malta shares. Greece caught up in the last five minutes after they also scored a goal, ending the game in a draw.
This draw however, gave Malta its historic achievement of their first-ever recorded point at a competitive futsal tournament.
Although they’ve been competitively playing since 2007, up until now, Malta had never scored any points, nor for the Fifa Futsal World Cup, and neither for the UEFA Futsal Chmaptionships.
Malta’s Futsal team has one more chance to raise that score tomorrow, 1st February, against Pembroke. The match will be held in Pembroke at 7pm, so go show your support!
