Malta’s Marija Elena Borg makes Malta proud

Marija Elena Borg is one to watch for the future.

The 24-year-old has made Malta proud after winning a top European essay-writing competition.

Marija Elena, who is an EU funding expert at the Malta Business Bureau in Valletta, beat more than 80 young people from across the EU to win the top prize.

She successfully pitched her essay on ‘What steps should entrepreneurs and government take to become more innovative?’

Marija Elena studied European Politics, Economics and Law at the University of Malta and was previously a pupil at De La Salle College in Vittoriosa before joining the Malta Business Bureau in 2015.

Malta Business Bureau CEO Joe Tanti praised her for her excellent achievement.

He added: Marija Elena has made us and Malta proud.

‘The Malta Business Bureau re-confirms its commitment to keep working hard in order to give a voice to young people and promote their fresh perspectives.’

Kristin Schreiber, European Commission Director for small business policy said: ‘This year’s entries were of an incredibly high standard, offering insightful thoughts on innovation and how to best enable it.

‘It’s encouraging to see young people actively engaging with European entrepreneurs and policy makers during such a sought-after annual event.

On behalf of the European Commission, I congratulate Marija Elena on this achievement and wish her luck in her work.’

Well done Marija Elena!
