Yazmin Zammit Stevens, the first Maltese female weightlifter to compete in the Olympics, finished third in a group stage of the 64kg category.
The Maltese Olympian placed third out of four competitors in Category B, with scores of 84 in the snatch and 189 in the clean and jerk.
Kiana Rose Elliot of Australia and Sema Nancy Ludrick Rivas of Nicaragua defeated Zammit Stevens in the group. However, she managed to finish ahead of Chaima Rahmouni from Tunisia.
Malta competed in weightlifting for the second time, but Zammit Steven’s presence cemented her place in Maltese history as the first Maltese female weightlifter to compete in the games.
