Malta’s company of the year has been revealed.
The Eden Leisure Group won the prestigious title at the Malta Stock Exchange annual awards dinner in Valletta.
The company was honoured for its ‘impressive financial growth and corporate governance’ in 2017.
Chairman Ian De Cesare told 89.7 Bay: ‘This award is a tremendous honour for everyone in our company – the directors at Eden Finance as well as our dedicated team of staff.
‘It’s been a great year for Eden Leisure with a double digit increase in revenue after an exceptionally busy 18 months as we continue to expand the business.’
‘More than anything, this award goes to show that hard work pays off. I started working for my mother and father in Sliema 50 years ago.’
He added: ‘My parents Cettina and Maurice De Cesare opened a small hotel on Ghar id-Dud seafront in 1967.
‘But what I and my brother and our children learnt from them both was to take on the business mantle and grow what they started.
‘When we made a massive leap 18 years ago to develop the Intercontinental Hotel, Cynergi, the Bay Arena and the Holiday Inn Express, our options to raise finance would have been greatly diminished if the Malta Stock Exchange didn’t exist.’
Eden Leisure owns and operates some of Malta’s leading businesses, including Intercontinental Malta, 89.7 Bay, Eden Superbowl, Eden Cinemas, Holiday Inn Express, Casino Malta and Cynergi.
