Hundreds of umbrellas have been suspended in the air as one of Malta’s most historic towns brings back its popular ‘Umbrella Street’ spectacle for a second year.
The magical installation in the heart of Zabbar includes more than a thousand umbrellas.
They were put up on Tuesday night by a team of dedicated volunteers.
Zabbar’s Umbrella Street was shown a lot of love on Bay’s social media last year – with hundreds of Insta-worthy shots popping up on everyone’s feeds.
A spokesman for Zabbar Local Council told 89.7 Bay: ‘Our umbrella installation in 2018 was one of the town’s most iconic events last year.
‘It gave everyone a real buzz and was admired both by locals and tourists visiting Zabbar.
‘The outdoor decorations not only add a vibrant splash of colour to the streets but also create a much-needed shade from the summer heat.’
Mayor Marc Vella Bonnici said the umbrella project was set up on Tuesday night with the help of volunteers from Group Armar Żabbar AD 1988 and the town’s two band clubs – Soċjeta Filarmonica Maria Mater Gratiæ Żabbar and Għaqda Madonna tal-Grazzja Banda San Mikel Żabbar.
If you plan to head to Zabbar this summer, make sure to capture a photo of Umbrella Street to brighten up your Instagram feed.
