Malta’s busiest road will be closed all day on Saturday.
The northbound carriageway of the Marsa-Hamrun Bypass, from the Marsa-Qormi flyover bridge to the Mriehel Bypass slip road and the Santa Venera tunnels, will shut from 2am on Saturday morning.
Transport Malta said the closure was necessary for asphalt laying works as part of the road’s €5 million upgrade.
The road is expected to re-open on Saturday night.
Police and Transport Malta officials will be stationed in the area to help drivers through the diversions.
A spokesman for Transport Malta said: ‘Road users are encouraged to use alternative routes through Marsa and Msida, or from Luqa and Qormi, when travelling from the south towards the central and northern parts of the island.’
Transport Malta’s emergency vehicle breakdown towing service will also be available.
Drivers can call the emergency support line 8007 3399 to request assistance.
