Prepare to be dazzled.
The Malta International Fireworks Festival is back with a bang – and has started with the first of three spectacular nights in Xaghra.
The 17th edition of the event will be different in more ways than one.
Celebrating the theme of Where Fire and Culture Meet, the events will include displays that have never been seen before in the Maltese Islands.
Malta Tourism Authority chairman Gavin Gulia told 89.7 Bay: ‘The festival is one of our most popular and longest running events.
‘This year the organisers have really outdone themselves by putting together a festival that will provide the audience with a full sensory experience.’
Here’s what to expect.
Saturday 21 April – Xaghra
The festival opened in Gozo in spectacular style.
It featured performances by UK-based Phoenix Fireworks and Rozzi Fireworks of the USA against a spectacular backdrop that will grab your attention.
Friday 27 April – Marsaxlokk
Another spectacle will be held on Friday 27 April in Marsaxlokk, where Martarello of Italy and St Mary Fireworks Factory of Ghaxaq will be setting the sky alight.
The event in Marsaxlokk will be based on a traditional Maltese feast, where the colourful decorations and a local band dedicated to Madonna ta’ Pompei will take centre stage.
Monday 30 April – Valletta
The Grand Finale will be like no other pyrotechnic show our islands have experienced.
Fireworks which will be synchronized to live singing and a live musical orchestra, which will perform music written for the occasion from a floating stage in Malta’s majestic Grand Harbour, Valletta.
The event is organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority.
