Malta’s Balluta Bay will have a new beach every summer.
The island’s tourism minister announced the decision, despite all of the sand being swept away by the stormy sea after just seven months.
Konrad Mizzi told the Times of Malta the €80,000 cost of the sandy beach was ‘worth it’ because so many people visited Balluta Bay during the summer months.
He added: ‘The cost and the investment is not massive, so we will be replenishing it or topping it up on a yearly basis.
‘Long-term solutions include a reef or wave-breaker of sorts, which would ensure the sand remains but this would require further studies.
‘On balance, we decided providing a beach for Balluta makes sense.’
