Malta wins first gold at Mediterranean Bowling Championships

Malta has won its first gold medal at this year’s Mediterranean Bowling Championships.

Sue Abela and Sara Xuereb were crowned winners of the Ladies Doubles competition, beating off rivals from 16 other nations.

In the Mens Doubles, Maltese duo Mauro Anastasi and Justin Caruana Scicluna came fifth.

Malta has another chance to add to its medal tally when the Mixed Dobles competition takes place on Thursday.

A record 16 nations are taking part in this year’s tournament, including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, Greece, Gibraltar, Cyprus and Malta.

The Mediterranean Bowling Championships are being held until Saturday at the Eden Superbowl in St Julian’s.
