Malta will remain ‘Britain’s best friend’ after Brexit

Joseph Muscat has said Malta will remain ‘Britain’s best friend’ in Europe after Brexit.

The Prime Minister was speaking in Parliament in Valletta on Monday night.

He said Malta would be ‘the most UK-friendly nation in the EU’ after Britain formally leaves the European Union on March 29, 2019.

Dr Muscat also praised Theresa May for her ‘incredible determination’ and said he hoped that what was agreed between Britain and the European Commission last weekend would be approved by MPs in Westminster.

He said the proposed Brexit deal would protect the rights of Maltese people living and working in Britain, as well as British people living and working in Malta.

The Prime Minister said he supported Mrs May’s stance that the agreement reached between the EU and the UK was ‘the only deal possible’.
