Malta welcomes more tourists than ever in 2018

Malta has another reason to celebrate success today.

We welcomed a record number of holidaymakers last year, according to impressive official tourism figures released on Tuesday.

Nearly 2.6 million tourists visited the Maltese Islands in 2018 – that’s up more than 14 per cent over the previous 12 months.

A spokesman for the National Statistics Office – Malta in Valletta told 89.7 Bay: ‘Total nights spent by tourists went up by 12.5 per cent, reaching nearly 18.6 million nights.

‘Expenditure was estimated at €2.1 billion, 8 per cent higher than that recorded for 2017.

‘Total expenditure per head stood at €809, a decrease of 5.5 per cent when compared to last year.’

The figures showed that the number of tourists visiting Malta in December reached 122,759, an increase of 11 per cent when compared to the same month in 2017.
