Malta could be hit by floods as massive downpours bring a month’s worth of rain in just four days in some areas.
Heavy rain is set to disrupt roads across the Maltese Islands this week, according to weather experts.
The Met Office in Luqa issued a weather warning, with forecasters predicting strong winds and thundery showers on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecasters said Tuesday and Wednesday would see the worst of the wet and windy conditions.
Andrea Muscat from Maltese Islands Weather told 89.7 Bay: ‘This should bring a long spell of dry weather to an end.
‘Some parts of the Maltese Islands have not seen a decent shower for more than three weeks.
‘A mass of showers and thunderstorms will be moving around the central Mediterranean for up to four days.
‘Showers are possible at any time from late morning on Monday till late evening on Thursday.’
Despite the rain, temperatures are likely to remain warm across Malta and Gozo, ranging from highs of 27 degrees celcius to overnight lows of 18.
The Met Office said the rain clouds are expected to part just in time for the weekend.
