Malta has been promised a bright but nippy start to 2020.
The Met Office in Luqa forecast a mainly sunny and dry New Year’s Day for the Maltese Islands with temperatures as low as 8°C.
It said winds will be light to moderate, blowing from a north-northwesterly direction.
The Met Office ruled out any chance of frost in Malta and Gozo over New Year.
A spokeswoman said: ‘The chilly weather of recent days, caused by air descending from Russia due to a cold anticyclone covering most of Europe, will persist in the first few days of 2020.
‘Between Tuesday and Thursday, the temperature is forecast to peak at a maximum of 15°C and will drop to a low of 8°C.’
The coldest New Year’s Eve on record remains the last day of 2014, when temperatures plunged to 2°C and the Maltese Islands woke up to a frosty 2015.
