Malta Police stop 900 motorists in drink-driving crackdown

Malta’s drivers are being warned not to risk getting behind the wheel after a drink as police launch a new Christmas crackdown.

Officers will be conducting high visibility patrols and roadside checks over the next few weeks to catch those driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Two motorists were allegedly caught drink-driving during a police checkpoint in Birzebbuga on Friday night, with a third caught during a late-night check in Qormi.

Malta Police said officers had stopped more than 900 vehicles over the past few days.

Several types of drugs were also found in cars, including cannabis, heroin and cocaine.
