Police seize 150kg of drugs on ship in Malta

Malta Police have made an arrest after discovering a ‘substantial’ amount of drugs on a merchant ship.

Officers from the Vice Squad and Customs Department found around 150kg of cannabis during an inspection of the vessel, which was travelling through Malta.

They said the drugs were packaged and ready to be sold.

The drugs did not seem to be destined for the Maltese market.

A police spokesman told 89.7 Bay: ‘The vessel, which stops in a number of places around the world, was inspected and found to be carrying several packets, packed in plastic which contained around 150 kilograms of suspected cannabis.

‘Investigations into the case are on going and a magisterial inquiry has been appointed.’
