Malta Police have hit the streets of Bedfordshire as part of a new on-the-job training scheme.
Sergeant Gabria Gatt and PC Charles Azzopardi Refalo, who are both based at Mellieha police station, spent a week on duty in Bedford, where the concept of community policing is well established.
They were welcomed by Bedfordshire Police chief constable Garry Forsyth and took part in daily street patrols and briefings with their British colleagues.
British-style community policing is being introduced to Malta over the coming months after a successful trial run in Mellieha.
A spokesman for The Malta Police Force said: ‘This training activity is part of the Malta Police’s commitment to keep improving our community policing efforts currently employed as a pilot project in Mellieha.
‘We are preparing solid foundations for the expansion of this project in other communities based on the notion that policing is most effective when it is considered and practiced in the form of a partnership between communities and the police.’
