Malta Orange-Listed Following Surge In COVID-19 Cases

Following a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the Maltese Islands have been put back on the orange travel list by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

This comes after Malta remained on the ECDC green list for two months. Within the last two weeks, cases have spiked from 250 to 700. At the time of writing, 15 patients are in hospital while three are being treated at the ITU.

With regard to the booster vaccination programme, so far, 85,000 booster shots have been administered.

With Austria heading into full lockdown, several other countries in Europe have been pushed back to the orange and even red travel lists.

The ECDC travel list splits countries into three categories: green, orange, and red. Countries classified as green have the best infection and positivity rates, followed by those in orange and then red, which marks countries with the worst infection rates.
