Malta was one of the sunniest places in Europe last month, according to new figures.
They showed the Maltese Islands enjoyed 331 hours of sunshine in August – 20 hours more than during the same month in 2018.
Weather experts said August was also slightly warmer than usual this year but wasn’t a record breaker.
The maximum temperature in August was registered just before the Santa Maria holiday in Malta, when mercury hit 36°C on 13 August.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office in Luqa told 89.7 Bay: ‘The first few days of the month saw pleasant temperatures, which dropped to a minimum of 21.8°C on 6 August.
‘While July registered a mean air temperature of 27.9°C, a hot August drove the average air temperature up to 28.2°C, one degree warmer than normal.
‘The sea temperature was also one degree warmer than usual, reaching 27.3°C.’
