It looks like 2019 will be another record year for tourism in Malta and Gozo.
New figures show passenger numbers at Malta’s airport soared to a new high in April as thousands of families from Britain, France, Italy and Germany headed to the Maltese Islands for Easter.
A total of 653,100 people passed through the Gudja terminal last month, an increase of 10.5% compared to the same month last year.
Airport bosses said it was the first time passenger numbers had soared above 600,000 in April.
Easter was the busiest weekend, with more than 26,500 passengers at the airport over the holiday.
The airport’s biggest markets were:
- United Kingdom +7.4%
- Italy +6.8%
- Germany +14.4%
- France +14.5%
- Spain +13.5%
