The Malta national team has moved up six places in the latest FIFA rankings, following their first win in the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
In the latest list published by FIFA, the national team rose to 171st in the world based on 963.16 points. Their rise owes much to their showing in the 3-0 win over Cyprus at the National Stadium earlier this month.
Two goals from Cain Attard and one from Joseph Mbong earned the team their first win in the World Cup qualifiers and Malta’s first success on home soil!

The team then suffered a 1-0 defeat in Slovenia and then lost to Russia 2-0 in Moscow. However, Malta remains above other European nations such as Moldova (180th), Liechtenstein (188th), Gibraltar (197th), and San Marino (210st).
Malta is set to host Slovenia on October 8 and will then travel to Cyprus on October 11.
