One of Malta’s Leading Virologists, Dr Chris Barbara, in an interview with The Times of Malta has revealed that Malta is expected to receive its first COVID-19 Vaccine Consignment as early as December.
He also said that this vaccine will first be administered to medical frontliners and vulnerable people, before being administered in the community.
This comes after last month’s declaration by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne had said that Malta will be one of the first countries to receive a COVID-19 Vaccine, which could start getting manufactured in the coming weeks.
The vaccine which Malta and other EU states will have available is the one being produced by AstraZeneca, in collaboration with the University of Oxford. The vaccine is currently in its third phase of clinical trials, being tested on some 30,000 people.
Malta has so far been allocated 330,000 doses of this vaccine.
