LATEST: PM Robert Abela announces new Precautionary Measures

With effect from MIDNIGHT TOMORROW, Bars, Restaurants, Cinemas, Gyms and other spaces where the public gathers will be closing. Delivery services by Restaurants can still be offered. The full list of establishments will be published in a forthcoming Legal Notice. Dr Abela said that fines will be in place for those who will not observe this rule.

Mentioning fines, the Prime Minister announced that the fine for people who break the Quarantine rule is to be tripled to €3,000 for every time a person is found not observing this rule.

So far 5 persons have been found infringing this rule and were duly fined.

The Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs were addressing the media in Castille a few hours after the Superintendent of Public Health, Prof Charmaine Gauci confirmed nine new COVID-19 Cases in Malta, with three of them being the first locally-transmitted cases and the other six being imported cases.



Dr Abela also hinted that more economic and financial aid is on its way for those struggling businesses, and these will also be announced soon.

The Prime Minister appealed to those Maltese nationals who are still abroad to return to Malta as soon as possible, whilst also appealing to tourists to leave as soon as they can, further adding that there has been a sharp decline in the amount of arriving tourists.

Having said this, Dr Abela said that the situation is still under control, and that there was no cause for panic, whilst reiterating that the Health Authorities are ready for any eventuality
