Juventus lead with 16 points after controversial win

Juventus emerged with a dramatic and controversial 2-1 win at the Stadio San Paolo, with Alex Meret and Miralem Pjanic sent off, Lorenzo Insigne missing a late penalty.

This result opens up the gap at the top of the table to 16 points and the Scudetto race is effectively now over, but it was again far from a convincing display.

Carlo Ancelotti questioned the early red card, explained what went wrong on the Juventus goals and was “surprised how superior Napoli were with 10 v 10.”

“It’s controversial. He certainly didn’t catch him, I can accept it was punished for an attempted tackle. Then you have to take into account where the ball was going, where Allan was,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

This opens up a 16-point lead at the top of the table and the Scudetto race is to all intents and purposes now over.

“I fell asleep, as I should’ve replaced Pjanic when he had the first card. He was at risk, but I didn’t expect him to handle,” Max Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We lost some of our organisation, Napoli gained courage and the crowd pushed them forward. We had a chance to score another, but then we defended well and on the penalty Insigne missed.

Napoli defender, Nikola Maksimovic insists “it always goes like that with Juventus, we dominate and lose because of some error or a set play. Even Alex Meret isn’t sure if he touched Cristiano Ronaldo.”
