On July 20th, the billionaire space race reached a new milestone when Jeff Bezos flew to space and back in an 11-minute flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepard Rocket Ship.
Bezos was accompanied by his brother Mark Bezos, 82-year-old astronaut Wally Funk, and 18-year-old high-school graduate Oliver Daemen, who became the oldest and youngest people to ever visit space.
He spoke to the press after landing about their mission and the experience of flying more than 60 miles above Earth’s surface. He then proceeded to thank his Amazon colleagues, as well as all Amazon customers, for essentially funding the trip through their efforts and purchases.
“I want to congratulate every Amazon employee and customer because you guys paid for this,”
The CEO expressed his gratitude to any individual who ever bought something from Amazon, as essentially, they paid for the trip.
“Seriously, for every Amazon customer out there and every employee thank you from the bottom of my heart very much. It’s very appreciated.”
