James Bond star Daniel Craig to undergo ankle surgery

Daniel Craig is to undergo surgery on his ankle after being injured on the set of the upcoming James Bond movie.

The actor, 51, will be out of action for two weeks as he recovers from the accident.

He was shooting the latest instalment of the spy film series in Jamaica when he reportedly slipped while sprinting during an action scene.

He was flown to the US after the fall so he could be examined by the same surgeon who treated England footballer Harry Kane for a similar injury.

A tweet from the official James Bond account confirmed: ‘Daniel Craig will be undergoing minor ankle surgery resulting from an injury sustained during filming in Jamaica.

‘Production will continue whilst Craig is rehabilitating for two weeks post-surgery.

‘The film remains on track for the same release date in April 2020.’

The Sun reported that the 007 star tweaked his ankle ligaments last week after falling over during a chase scene for the film.

A source told the newspaper: ‘He was sprinting during filming when he slipped and fell quite awkwardly.

‘He was in quite a lot of pain and was complaining about his ankle.

‘As you’d expect he was also pretty angry that it had happened. He threw his suit jacket on the ground in sheer frustration.’

Bond 25 is expected to hit the Eden Cinemas in St Julian’s in April 2020.
