Local footballer Haley Bugeja has been awarded the title of best player in the Series A Femminile.
This award was given by an Italian football publication called L Football who specialize in woman’s football. During the first season playing in the Serie A, Bugeja scored 12 goals across 1,112 minutes and by the time the season came to a close, she became the club’s top scorer and had taken up a place in the top 5 goal scorers in the division.
After being presented the trophy, Haley Bugeja commented “I’m really happy to win this important award.”
At just 17 years old, she also made a big impact on the Maltese national football team when she became the first Maltese woman to score a hat-trick during an international competition.
The footballer’s incredible talent started being recognized when she signed a 3-year deal with Sassuolo in 2020 at just 16 years old. This year, she was also awarded the Best Young Player of the Year award in last season’s Serie A Femminile.
