Emotional tributes have been paid to a mother who has died six days after suffering serious injuries in a road accident in Gozo.
Ivy Evison, 41, from Swieqi was described as ‘beautiful’, ‘inspiring’ and ‘amazing’ by heartbroken friends following news of her tragic death.
She was a passenger in a jeep that was involved in a collision with another car on Mgarr Road in Ghajnsielem, a notorious accident blackspot.
Eight other people, including three boys, were injured in the horrific crash in the early hours of Friday 16 August.
Ivy’s teenage daughter Sofia confirmed that a memorial service would be held in the coming weeks.
She wrote on her mum’s Facebook page: ‘As you may know, my mother has passed away.
‘Your support has been amazing and I would like to thank everyone who has written to us.
‘You have been amazingly helpful and I cannot express how grateful I am for all the love we have received.
‘It’s so beautiful to see how many people my mother has impacted in her lifetime.
‘We will soon be announcing an event to be held in her honour, and look forward to working with you to make it truly special.’
Ivy’s devastated friends, neighbours in Sweiqi and colleagues quickly took to social media to express their shock and pay respects to the fun-loving fitness instructor who worked at a gym in Naxxar.
One wrote: ‘Ivy was such a beautiful person inside and out, so positive, inspiring, energetic, loving and spiritual.’
Another posted: ‘I am so sorry for your loss. What happened shocked us all and it is difficult to come to terms with the fact that she is no longer with us.’
A friend from her native Latvia added: ‘Ivy was an incredible person and we will always remember her for all the smiles and warm words.’
Malta Police are still investigating the cause of the road accident.
