With effect from today all infrastructural projects headed by Infrastructure Malta, all over Malta and Gozo, including the Marsa Junction Project, the Santa Lucija Tunnels’ Project and the Central Link Project, have been halted.
Last week, Infracture Malta CEO, Ing. Frederick Azzopardi informed all contractors that due to the fact that there is a storage problem for construction waste, all works had to stop from the day, in the best interest of the health and safety of all those currently working on these sites.
It is estimated that Infrastructure Malta had to stop around 130 projects, including the re-construction of residentials roads.
ERA has in return stated that there are 31 sites where construction waste can be disposed of, with six accepting only recyclable waste. ERA had also said that prior to the commencement of a project, it is to be ensured that there is enough space for waste to be disposed of.
