Incredible photo captures lightning strikes over Gozo

Thunderstorms have been rumbling over the Maltese Islands – and one talented photographer has captured an incredible shot of fork lightning over Gozo

The image, by Paul Grima, shows lightning bolts in the sky above the ferry terminal at Mgarr Harbour.

As reported on 89.7 Bay, a storm swept across Malta and Gozo on Tuesday night – with hail, thundery showers and heavy rain reported in several areas.

Maltese Islands Weather confirmed that Gharb in Gozo was the wettest place in the Maltese Islands with 44 mm of rain recorded overnight.

Around 40 mm of rain was measured in Xaghra.

Just across the sea, Mellieha and St Paul’s Bay got off lightly with only 5mm of rainfall.

The good news is the worst of the stormy weather is now over.

The Met Office in Luqa said the unsettled conditions will ease during Wednesday before mild, dry and sunny weather moves in.

Forecasters said the next five days are set to be partly cloudy with plenty of sunshine across Malta and Gozo, with temperatures reaching 29°C.
