With an investment of six hundred thousand euros, St Clement Park in Zabbar was inaugurated today. This is the first park opened by Parks Malta which is responsible for the valleys and parks in our country. Zabbar Mayor Jorge Grech, explained that when choosing the name for the park – “Il-Park ta’ San Klement” – the Local Council took into consideration the fact that out of the five bastions which surround Zabbar, part of a total of 12 bastions leading all the way to Cottonera. The location of the Park is adjacent to the St Clement Bastion which is what led to the naming of the park, which is usually known as “Il-Foss” or “Il-Masgar taz-Zebbug”.
The park was opened in an area that had been left derelict and abandoned and that even began to be used for drug abuse and illegal dumping of waste. With about forty acres of land this park is one of the largest in the south of Malta.
