IN PHOTOS AND VIDEOS: This Is What Went Down At Yesterday’s Pageant of the Seas in Valletta

One of the events which has now cemented itself in Malta’s Calendar of Event is the Valletta Pageant of the Seas. For the first-time ever, and due to the current situation, the event was held and was televised in its entirety. We were treated to some fun races, stunning visuals of the majestic Grand Harbour and one wicked fireworks and light display!

It all started with the whacky Tellieqa Telliqun. The vessels built by the participants themselves arrived in Quarry Wharf, where a signal marked the start of the race, which saw the teams racing towards the finish line, next to the Old Fish Market.

In the end, the vessel QUICKIE was crowned the winner of the race.

It was then time for the Female Regatta. This was the first time that a regatta with solely female rowers is taking place during the Valletta Pageant of the Seas. The teams, coming from Vittoriosa, Birzebbugia, Cospicua, Senglea, Kalkara and Marsa, raced from the Valletta Waterfront to Quarry Wharf.

The winners were Glynnis Mizzi and Rachelle Gialanze for Birgu! In second place, Susan Zammit and Rebezza Fitz for Birzebbugia and in third place Nadine Vella and Shazel Grima for Bormla.

Another massive highlight was Il-Mappa – a show consisting of no less than 60 boats! Under the artistic direction of international Artistic Director Chris Baldwin, the sails of these boats were transformed into screens showing projections specially designed for this occasion by Visual Concept Director Charlie Cauchi, with the help of Andres Algeciras, against a backdrop of lights designed by Light Design and Visual Coordinator Petko Tanchev.
