Rubbish is the last thing you’d want to see when you’re trying to enjoy a day at one of Malta’s beautiful beaches.
That’s why Malta’s number one health and fitness club has teamed up with the environment group Żibel to give Riviera Bay at Ghajn Tuffieha a major clean-up.
The most common things found on Maltese beaches are tiny bits of plastic and cigarette butts, which are harmful to shore birds and marine life.
Cynergi manager Jim Harvey told 89.7 Bay: ‘During the clean-up we will be using sieves to sift the sand and get rid of all rubbish and microplastics that have accumulated on the beach.
‘It’ll provide a great work out and is definitely a fun way to burn calories.’
Extra hands are needed for the clean up on Saturday 24 November as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction.
How can you help?
Be a Sifter!
We’ll be splitting the beach into rows and splitting up volunteers into small teams with a dedicated row each. We will then show you how to properly sift sand in an ordered manner to maximize our efforts.
Be a Coaster!
If you’re not joining us sifting, you can lend a hand with sorting or join in the land crew to scour the area
As always, Żibel will provide everything needed for the clean-up, including the sieves.
- Water can be refilled from our dispenser but please bring your reusable flask or bottle.
- Sunblock will be provided courtesy of La Roche-Posay
- First Aid will be available on site
- Gloves and bags will also be provided
