Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a block of flats collapsed in Gwardamangia.
Horrified residents told how they ran for their lives from their homes before the building crashed to the ground.
One man said he felt the three-storey building starting to move while he was preparing for bed.
As the corner of the apartment block gave way, bricks and concrete rubble spilled onto the street below.
Net News reported that the emergency services rushed to the scene on Gwardamangia Hill, just a few metres away from St Luke’s Hospital, at around 10.45pm on Wednesday night.
One News reported that the building which collapsed is situated next to a construction site.
The ground floor housed Transport Malta’s theory testing centre for learner drivers but was empty at the time.
One woman who lived on the second floor told TVM: ‘Thankfully I haven’t been reduced to rubble like my house has’.
Malta Police confirmed there were no injuries despite the devastation.
A Civil Protection Department spokesman said: ‘It is too early to provide any further details, but nobody was hurt.’
An investigation into what caused the accident has been launched.
