Malta’s historic streets transformed into film set

The historic streets of Vittoriosa have been transformed into a film set.

The Maltese city is being used as the backdrop for a British-funded movie about the life of Jesus.

A number of narrow streets have been decorated with ceramic pots and wicker baskets as well as Middle Eastern fabrics.

Extras dressed as biblical characters said the film’s working title was ‘Icon’.

The Instagram page beautiful_birgu posted several shots from the set in Vittoriosa.

It said: ‘Our historic streets are being turned into a film set of Jerusalem in the time of Jesus for a film shoot over the next few days.’

Tourists have been stopped from entering the area and traffic access has also been restricted to residents only.

It’s reported that the film crew will shoot a number of scenes in Mdina next week.
